1st Cast Fishing Lures
Great information on great lures.Archive for April, 2008
Most people who fish have a certain bait that they call their confidence or go to bait. I know that I actually have two. I wonder sometimes though if one of them is just because I like catching fish this way or is it really one of my go to baits. I think there is a difference. For example, when fishing gets tough, I will usually turn to my #1 go to bait which is a jig of some sort. Lately I have been using a new jig called the Halo Jig. Believe me it is worth checking out at www.1stcastfishinglures.com. I have a lot of confidence in the jig, always have. They make you slow down and pay more attention. My other go to bait is a crank bait. I absolutely love throwing them and have a lot of faith in the fact that I can catch fish on them. Most mornings during a tournament this is what I will turn to. You can cover a large amount of water and find active fish. Once you have found them you can slow down and cover the water thoroughly with the crank bait or a soft plastic bait to make sure you are covering the entire water column.
What do you turn to for your Confidence Bait?

As lakes around the country begin to thaw and we go back to fishing as our number one leisure activity, I have a little story to share:
From the time I was 14, I’d used the same method to bring my rod with me to the lake near the house I grew up in. As a kid, I never thought to get a bag for my rod and being poor, my dad taught me to wrap it up using plastic grocery bags, which worked until I stopped using the hand-me-down fishing rod. Within the last year or so, I’ve been trying out different bags and seeing which one worked best for me.
Eventually, I came across the Take It Easy Bag. It holds several poles and, among other things, is waterproof. More than anything, I like the fact that it uses a shoulder strap, so both my hands aren’t holding something. If you don’t use up all the room, you could throw a bag of chips in there too.
So while the weather heats up and summer approaches, you’ll be sure to find me around with my new favorite fishing rod bag.
This is what can happen when you are willing to try a new bait. This is a friend that wanted to try the new Halo Jig for a tournament last weekend. I can tell you that the conditions were less than perfect, water as you can see is muddy and the wind was whipping up to 25 or 30 mph on occasion. The Halo jig that he used and bought was the 3/8oz 5/0 hook in Green Pumpkin Craw color. This happened to one of two that he landed in less than 45 minutes on the water. Good things happen to those who are willing to try new lures and go for one fish at a time, in other words concentrate on what the fish are telling you.
Congratulations on the catch!

I love to fish. My favorite is bass fishing. I do it competitively and for fun. It can be very satisfying and very frustrating at the same time. This may explain why I use to like the game of golf so much. I guess my second favorite would be Crappie and Walleye/Pike would run a very close third. This is mainly due to location. We don’t have many good Walleye waters here in Missouri like they do up north, especially Canada. Now that is fun!
You know the old saying is a bad day of fishing is better than a good day in the office.
I know that people find many different things that can relax them. Mine is fishing. Even when I may not be having one of the better days at catching, like in a tournament, I still really enjoy fishing. Plus you can learn something new every time you go out. In fact if you don’t, you really are short changing yourself.
When you do go fishing it is always a good idea to be prepared with great fishing lures. Talk to people and find out what they are biting on. No matter what species you are looking for, it can help you be prepared. What time of year is it and what pattern are the fish in? Give yourself all the advantages you can. If you are bass fishing, are they on a Jig bite or a spinner bait. Maybe they are onto a lizard bite or any number of other plastic fishing lures. Find out what color of jigs people are using to catch all those Crappie or Walleye. Maybe they are throwing a bottom bouncer with a spinner rig for the Walleyes. Every little bit of information you can get will help make your trip a better trip.
So I go back to my original question, what are you fishing for?
